Self Help?

[Beg for Understanding]

If I were to write a “self help” book it would end too abruptly, for it would undoubtedly read: See the Bible. (Even more accurately, give your life to God.) Some people look within, but our help doesn’t come from within unless the Spirit of God dwells in us. (The Holy Spirit)

So it is with you. When you heard the true teaching—the Good News about your salvation—you believed in Christ. And in Christ, God put His special mark of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit that He had promised. That Holy Spirit is the guarantee that we will receive what God promised for His people until God gives full freedom to those who are His—to bring praise to God’s glory.  Ephesians 1:13-15 (NCV)

The Truth

Truth be told, the Bible is our all encompassing source of help and encouragement.  I can’t truly lead you in the best way to go, only God can do that, and you can only receive help by seeking and following Jesus. (John 14:6)

Ask for Directions

The Bible is a road map for the lost, and yes, sometimes you do have to stop and ask for directions, but God is always ready and willing to guide us–all we have to do is ask. (Matthew 7:7-11)

Hope Just Ahead

“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” — Jeremiah 6:16

Invite Him into Your life

If you don’t know Jesus, or you’ve been distant with Him, ask Him into your life.  Forgiveness and Salvation are always just one step away.

You don’t have to be perfect to come to Jesus, He plans to do that work in you and sweep things clean.  You just have to have a willing spirit.

Get yourself a Bible (or Bible App) or open the one that’s just sitting their gathering dust, and let the Holy Spirit guide you to a clearer and deeper understanding of who Jesus is; He will establish your path as you learn to trust Him. (Proverbs 16:3)

“My Child, Believe what I say.  And remember what I command you.  Listen to wisdom.  Try with all your heart to gain understanding. Cry out for wisdom.  Beg for understanding.  Search for it as you would for silver.  Hunt for it like hidden treasure.  Then you will understand what it means to respect the Lord.  Then you will begin to know God.  Only the Lord gives wisdom.  Knowledge and understanding come from Him.  He stores up wisdom for those who are honest.  Like a shield He protects those who are innocent.  He guards those who are fair to others.  He protects those who are loyal to Him.”

–Proverbs 2:1-8
