[…and the door shall be opened to you]
Quite frequently our little grey cat, Jessie, makes the same mistake. As I’m getting ready to head off to sleep, she’ll run and hide under the bed. I’m not exactly sure why she does this, but she quickly realizes the error in her ways as Andrew closes the bedroom door and goes to prepare her dinner.
It’s not too long before she comes out from under the bed realizing that she’s missing out, goes to the door and begins to meow. When she does, Andrew opens the door for her and gives her two things that she desires: her freedom and her dinner.
We can do the same thing with God. Instead of seeking Him we can make the mistake of hiding, only to realize that we have become trapped by our own error in judgement. Whether it’s fear, unbelief, excuses or disinterest that keeps us from diligently seeking God, it will always be a mistake. We can only have what’s on the other side of the door by first making our request known.
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” –Matthew 6:33
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” –Matthew 7:7-8
