Self Help

If I were to write a “self help” book it would end too abruptly, for it would undoubtedly read. “See the Bible.” Truth be told,  it’s an all encompassing “self help” book, because you do yourself a huge favor when you put your life in God’s hands.   I can’t truly lead you in the way; only God can, and you can only be shown the way by seeking and following Him. The Bible is a road map for the lost, and yes, sometimes you do have to stop and ask for directions, but God is always ready and willing to point you in that direction–all you have to do is ask.

If your walk with God has somehow derailed; maybe you feel it’s heading in the wrong direction, or perhaps it’s just not begun yet, stop doing what you’ve always done.  Don’t keep avoiding the problem and relying solely on yourself;  seek God; start talking to Him, and maybe even more so–start listening to Him.   If we want to stay to the path we must be steeped in the truth.  If you simply haven’t found that path yet, let me point you in the right direction.

“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” — Jeremiah 6:16

If you don’t know God, or you and He are just distant right now,  to set things right, all you have to do is ask Him into your life.  Forgiveness for your sins and salvation are always just one step away.  You don’t have to be perfect to come to Him, He plans to do that work in you and sweep things clean.  You just have to have a willing heart.  Ask Him in and seek Him out.  Get yourself a Bible–or open the one that’s just sitting their gathering dust, and let the Holy Spirit guide you to a clearer and deeper understanding of who Jesus is; He will establish your path as you learn to trust Him.

“My Child, Believe what I say.  And remember what I command you.  Listen to wisdom.  Try with all your heart to gain understanding. Cry out for wisdom.  Beg for understanding.  Search for it as you would for silver.  Hunt for it like hidden treasure.  Then you will understand what it means to respect the Lord.  Then you will begin to know God.  Only the Lord gives wisdom.  Knowledge and understanding come from him.  He stores up wisdom for those who are honest.  Like a shield he protects those who are innocent.  He guards those who are fair to others.  He protects those who are loyal to him.”

–Proverbs 2:1-8
